SHARE Atlanta’s Inaugural Healthy Marriage Initiative Event
by YaQutullah Ibrahim
SHARE Atlanta hosted its first Healthy Marriage Initiative panel discussion on April 25, 2009 at the Risala Institute in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
The workshop was well attended with approximately 30 attendees and panelists. Guest speakers included Imam Nadim Ali, Imam Furqan Muhammad and their wives Sisters Mu’mina Ali and Daa’iyah Muhammad, respectively. The Workshop session included a couples’ panel and a wide range of attendees. The experienced panel addressed a variety of issues related to Supporting and Sustaining Healthy Marriages in an enthusiastic and interactive setting. Both married and unmarried participants attended the event. This. SHARE Atlanta’s inaugural HMI Workshop, also successfully provided the opportunity to engage the community and get their feedback as to current questions and concerns related to Healthy Marriage and ascertain valuable input from all participants as to the focus of future Workshops and services that might be helpful to couples and individuals preparing for marriage.
Some future topics included the importance of premarital and marital counseling, the importance of involving a wali in selecting a spouse, and financial planning.
Al hamdulillah, a Facebook page is currently being developed to “share” information with the community on SHARE Atlanta’s HMI and upcoming events, programs, and services to be offered to the community at large. The page will be linked with MANA's website, inshaAllah.
SHARE Atlanta was excited about the turnout and level of support and participation we witnessed and will continue to work with attendees, organizations and other community partners in support of continuing these sessions throughout the year.
