April 18, 2009 - With just a few weeks to go, the 2009 Islamic Games-Northeast ( is expecting a record registration of athletes and spectators.  The Organizing Committee has been working tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the event is professionally planned and executed.

The Northeast-Games is planned every year on Memorial Weekend, this year on May 22, 23 and 24 at Rider University, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, just 60 minutes from New York City and 30 minutes from Philadelphia.   The Organizing Committee is also busy with its plans for the Islamic Games-Midwest (July 25-26, Ypsilanti, Michigan) and Islamic Games-West (November 27-28, Los Angeles, California)

"We are pulling out all the stops to give the athlete and spectators a great time, based on our aggressive marketing and the overwhelming responses we have been receiving so far, we believe we will surpass our expectations", said Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Salaudeen Nausrudeen.

The Islamic Games, now in its 3rd year of successful operation and rapid growth is proving to be an event that Muslim athletes, spectators and sponsors from all directions are planning to attend.

The 2009 Islamic Games Committee consists of more than 35 members who are working diligently everyday to make the Games a major success.  The Committee was carefully assembled with quality persons who has a strong affinity for sports, kids and the Muslim unity, "and that's the winning combination," assured Mr. Nausrudeen

A recent online Islamic Games poll of 2008 attendees indicated that they like the unity that the Games bring more than any other item,” commented Mr. Nausrudeen.

The Islamic Games is open to all athletes including non-Muslims, “it is critically important that Muslims see themselves as Americans, and they do; and that other Americans see Muslims as Americans too, the Islamic Games in its own little way intends to do just that,” remarked Mr. Nausrudeen.

What's the cost?
The Islamic Games is traditionally a very affordable event, apart from the small Athlete registration fee of $10, everyone else is free, spectators and kids.

Mr. Nausrudeen added that, "we make the Islamic Games affordable because we want Muslims to come together to have a great time.  Alhamdulillah as the games grew so does our sponsorship base; sponsors are coming because they see the value that the games brings to the American Muslim Community."

Sisters Swimming and soccer added
In 2008, more than 700 females were among the 1700 athletes participating. And yes.. with hijab and all. The competition was "awesome" and the organizers for the 2009 Games are gearing up for a big increase of female athletes, especially since women’s soccer and swimming have been added.

"Over the years, we have noticed that there was a strong interest from sisters, we even received many complaints about not having enough for the sisters to do," said Salaudeen Nausrudeen, Chairman of the 2009 Islamic Games.

And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.
