Imam Abdur-Rashid: "Oh no, not again"

Speaking on WOR Radio, NewsTalk Radio 710

Mike Figliola

Imam Abdur-Rashid, religious and spiritual leader of The Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood in Harlem, New York City joined The John Gambling Show to discuss the NY Islamic response to the terror plot – were these men baited into attempting to perform these acts by the FBI?

Imam Rashid said that these individuals who were arrested were not apart of the mosque in Newburgh, he knows the Imam of that mosque for over 20 years and Cromitie possibly came through the Mosque once or twice but he was not a member. The nature of houses of worship is that people can attend without being a member of the congregation and that was the case here. His response when he first heard the report of this actions was oh no, not again - this only helps put a stain on the Muslim Community.

Imam Rashid added that Muslim leaders and Organizations in the U.S. and around the world loudly spoke out against what took place on 9/11 and do so here as well. These four guys are not aware of the laws of Islam; for someone to say they are Muslim and contemplate an attack on a house or worship is sinful, wrong and criminal in the Muslim faith. This is a very difficult thing; every time a Muslim is arrested for criminal actions the religion goes on display right away.

Finally, Imam Rashid said that he has spoken with a few of his people but he has been speaking with mostly leaders about the impact of this on his community and how they should handle the situation.
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.
