The Theme of MANA’s 2008 Conference:

Forging an American Muslim Agenda

Building upon the success of last year’s conference, MANA’s 2008 Conference will again be a working conference, taking the next step towards concretizing a national agenda to address the needs and concerns of Muslims in America.  Discussion of specific proposals in the area of healthy marriage, community reentry, and social services will take place; along with the discussion of the development of proposals in other areas such as education, health, masjid development, Islamic training and economic development.  MANA is an agenda-driven organization, and this year’s conference is another essential step in realizing its vision.

MANA’s 2008 Conference will broaden the circle of participation by bringing to the podium a larger number of young adults and women; and increasing the involvement of Hispanic, immigrant and second-generation Muslims.  We will hear from our well-known leaders such as Imam W. Deen Mohammed, Imam Zaid Shakir, Dr. Sherman Jackson, Imam Qasim Ahmed, and others but we will also hear from other less-known voices that represent the diversity of our Muslim community.  MANA is focused on the issues of the indigenous Muslim community, but it wants and needs the involvement of all Muslims in order to tackle successfully these concerns.  Secondly the issues of the indigenous community are similar in all other communities so it is important that we network and collaborate to address these concerns collectively.
And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.
